What Causes Runner's Knee?
Are you an avid runner? Do you feel pain in the front of your knee during or after your runs? You may be suffering from Runner's Knee and Dr. Andrew at Kinach Chiropractic in Excelsior Minnesota can help with it! Similar to Jumper's Knee, Runner's Knee is part of the patellofemoral pain syndrome family. Pain is often felt after a run, but as inflammation increases, it can begin to hurt when walking up or down stairs and even when going from sitting to standing.
The main causes of Runner's Knee are overuse and muscle imbalances around the knee. These go hand in hand because when muscle imbalances are present, we tend to overuse certain muscles in order to compensate and maintain motion!
How Can Chiropractic Care Help Runner's Knee?
Chiropractic care is helpful when dealing with Runner's Knee. Most treatment revolves around soft tissue work to help deal with the muscular imbalances, stiffness, and pain felt around the knee joint. We will also work to maintain proper motion of the hips, ankles, and lower back. Using chiropractic care to reduce the amount of compensation is how we can help!
What To Expect For Treatment?
-
Chiropractic adjustments to the low back, pelvis, hips and ankles to improve alignment
-
Manual Muscle Therapy to decrease muscle tightness in the quadriceps
-
Corrective exercises to help decrease muscle strength imbalances and improve muscle activation to decrease compensation
